WCC Library Project will target children and youngsters in rural Sierra Leone, in the Maboicondavillage/ area. The entire Molambay Area has a population of 22.000 people. The populations are mostly youthful and are determined to make a difference in their socio-economic status.
We foresee the following activity plan:
Monday to Friday:
Saturday:
WCC also foresees special activities that will take place every two weeks (a question time session with professionals on different topics of interest to the community), as well as special activities on a monthly basis (mathematics and English language education for adults, drama play, and special story reading by children and young adults).
WCC focuses efforts in rural Sierra Leone, and more specifically in the Molambay area, located in the Western Area Rural District of Sierra Leone, which has Waterloo as its capital for Local Government Authorities. The entire Molambay Area has a population of 22.000 people. The populations are mostly youthful and are determined to make a difference in their socio-economic status.
Sadly though, the socio-economic activities of these people and that of the entire country of Sierra Leone came to a halt due to the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in 2014. As a result of this tragedy, education came to a standstill and business crumbled as people's movements were restricted by the government to avoid the spread of the disease. After the virus was contained in 2015/2016, many of the inhabitants were not able to recover their losses and are left in abject poverty to this day. Imagine the impact of a new, deadly pandemic – the COVID19 pandemic – on these already fragile communities.
We will also hold regular consultations to communicate with the local community and stimulate them to give us feedback on the activities of the library, so we can adjust them to better accommodate the evolving needs of children and teenagers in the area.
