WCC: EDUCATION

The World Changing Centre (WCC) is a charity organization that is based in the US under category 501c(3) and in the UK under registration number 1136070. WCC’s work focuses on education and healthcare in Sierra Leone. The project is geared towards meeting the urgent educational needs in Sierra Leone. We aim to improve the quality of life of children and young people by providing various educational and recreational opportunities to advance their future prospects.

In order to do so, the following project interventions are needed:

(1) construct a new school building,

(2) equip it with educational resources,

(3) build an adjacent healthcare centre,

(4) provide primary education to pupils,

(5) offer them a package of extracurricular activities as well.

Maboikandoh is one of the 16 villages combined to form the Molambay area located in the Western Area Rural District of Sierra Leone, which has Waterloo as its capital for Local Government Authorities. Maboikandoh population is from 12000 to 22000. Education — especially child education —is a great challenge for these communities. There is only one government primary school located in another community, which is a few kilometers from Maboikandoh. The nearest secondary school is about 7km away. Students would have to walk on foot each day to and from school. This challenge has led to a high rate of dropout of boys and girls from schools. Many of the older students have gone into small scale backyard gardening to help support their families, since they cannot continue to pursue higher education because of the lack of funding. The project will provide primary education to around 1.000 (one thousand) children and young people aged between 5 and 25 years old(vocational skills).

*WCC already gained permission from the relevant local authorities to build the school and the healthcare center.
