The World Changing Centre is a UK registered charity (1136070) run by volunteers. In the UK we are dedicated to empowering parents with Autistic children through one to one holistic support. Our mission is to equip parents with the knowledge and tools to understand their children’s unique social and communication needs. We focus on individual care we aim to foster a deep connection between parents and children, enhancing wellbeing for both groups. We run parents support groups and psychotherapy(medication) session within Greenwich and work closely with schools, community centres and places of worship, We would like you to fund our new pilot project in the UK, giving parents of autistic children training within our local community of Greenwich. These workshops will target parents understanding of how to support, educate and raise awareness to others about their children’s condition.
Activities
The funding will allow us to promote the project and run the activities in our 3-hour long sessions, one days a week for 48 weeks. Parents will work in small groups and form peer-to-peer support networks amongst other parents in similar situations near them. The activities in these sessions would engage parents to help them build therapeutic relationships that will help to support their relationships and understand each other’s worlds. They will involve understanding cultural and religion barriers and how to support their children in education and community.
Sessions will also include:
People have better chances in life:
Our weekly interventions and therapy sessions will enhance the lifestyles of parents by supporting their children’s ability to control various aspects of their behaviour including restlessness, aggression and noisiness. In addition, the Autism training session will be engaging and enjoyable for parents because it will bring about change in their children’s social behaviour and cognitive ability. Our peer-to-peer support sessions will give parents a support system and the ability to share their experiences with their peers. During activities we will ask parents to create their own guide to feelings by having them draw pictures of “Happy,"“Sad," “Scared," “Mad" or “Frustrated” faces. These images will be kept and allow them to identify how parents are feeling during this session. We will encourage parents to keep a daily art journals to increase creative self-expression, which is key to enhancing their well-being. The various components of our weekly sessions will be working towards improving the life skills of a variety of different types of autism through stimuli and allowing parents to have better knowledge.
Stronger communities: Our project will raise awareness about autistic from its outset. Through promotion and outreach we will be educating and raising awareness and encouraging parents and community members to help and support each other. Our sessions will educate parents and their wider networks. This will increase knowledge and help more people understand how to support children with autism. In addition, parents will be able to share their knowledge and skills, which will have a wider impact on society.
